Your artistic ambitions, your dreams – with persistence and good luck... which also means, great collaborators who can support you as well as put up with you! – sometimes they might come true!

“Blues, Jazz, Rock & Soul”, if you can unite and live full time these musical genres, with no restrictions nor impediments dictated by promotion and marketing rules and without creative “mortification” caused by artistic consumerism imposed by the various mass media such as radios, tv, etc., it constitutes, just by itself, a dream coming true, doesn’t it?!

If to this we then add the fact that I did not only have the honour but also and especially the huge pleasure to collaborate with such musicians as... “

... drummers-percussionists-super-rhythm-men” VINNIE COLAIUTA & DAVIDE “DAVID-ONE” CORRADI (drums, percussions & programming), bassists JOHN PATITUCCI, DJANGO RAMBO & RENÈ CAMACHO (double bass & electric bass), keyboard player LARRY “EARTH WIND & FIRE” DUNN (keyboards), unpredictable jazz man STEVE TAVAGLIONE (sax & ewy), “blues-men-with-lots-of-soul” TOLLAK OLLESTAD & LARRY DAVID (harmonica), “eclectic-but-always-impeccably-classical” cellist LUCIANO GIRARDENGO (cello), gospel group PENTECOSTAL COMMUNITY CHOIR, “classical-&-jazzy” flugelhorn player DIEGO RUVIDOTTI, “sweet-yet-aggressive-black-yet-white” vibraphonist PATRIZIO BORLENGHI, just to mention a few, the dream does become reality!

And if to all of this we also add the fact that such musicians not only participated to my performance, therefore the realization-production of the so called “dress”, but have in fact given me incentive and inspiration which have consistently affected my writing and composing… what else can I say? If heaven ain’t like this… I want my money back!!!

That’s why the recording and producing of the entire project-album has been so “organic”, in other words “live-in-studio” recordings of my vocal tracks and acoustic guitars together, with no overdubs nor cuttings and pastes. One take – usually the first one – with leaks through both mics (voice and guitar) and after that, only a few overdubs with solo and/or accompanying instruments and, sometimes, even a symphony orchestra. I feel like – and I truly believe – that a production step in such a direction was brief, fast and… more than natural and justified!

The subtitle “Midnight Rain” then, was a must: this is perhaps one of the first compositions – if not the very first one – that back in 1987 got me officially started in this extremely amusing and exciting journey of “Blues, Jazz, Rock & Soul” indeed where, as I was saying, I have finally started to neglect, on purpose, – as I did not consider them artistically nor creatively relevant anymore – those parameters and common places dictated by the promotional and communication mass media apparatus (radios in primis) as well as by those promotional and marketing complicit wizards (record business establishment) who want everything and everyone to paradoxically follow their rules which are: everything must have the same sound and production format dictated by themselves as well as the fashion and trends of the moment – they seem to be more knowledgeable about “dress” rather than “substance”! – while, at the same time, they ask or even more, they “pretend”, that something "new" should be proposed and produced: I mean, the apotheosis of contradiction!!!

Let’s have patience, as my dear grandfather – farmer in the fields of the lower parmesan valley in Northern Italy – used to say, “we’ll die poor but very happy!”

As I was saying, the subtitle of this album-collection of songs couldn’t be anything else but  “Midnight Rain” . As a matter of fact this composition is hereby featured three times in her three different versions, recorded through the years: the first one in 1987, in her original version when – clearly influenced by the ‘80s trend – I didn’t quiet mastered yet the capacity to hold out against the “temptation-imposition” of a performance by electronic drums & digital samples (even though I enjoyed the astonishing help and collaboration of drummer VINNIE COLAIUTA and programmer-producer BRUCE FORAT) with the various overdubs by JOHN PATITUCCI (electric bass), STEVE TAVAGLIONE (sax and ewy), LARRY “EARTH WIND & FIRE” DUNN (keyboards), PENTECOSTAL COMMUNITY CHOIR (vocal background), etc. And after that, also the rigorously unplugged versions in the year 2000, myself with acoustic guitar and vocals along with  TOLLAK OLLESTAD (harmonica) and RENÈ CAMACHO (double bass); and up to the most recent recording, first selection of this album recorded in 2013, with DIEGO RUVIDOTTI (flugelhorn), DJANGO RAMBO (double bass) and myself once more with acoustic guitar and vocals.

Love & Music and… good listening to everyone!!!
